Let's try again - George Reed?

Bingo!
Locked for you for the name of this special.
(and what about the background car  ;D)

G. Reed Ford Special also known as the "Pratley Skate".
Warwick Pratley won the 1951 Australian Grand Prix at Narrogin with this car (see photo below).

I have no idea what the car is in the background.  :-\

I have a different name, but you found the car:
There were different specials, all similar.
This one is a replica of the one in your pic:

Perhaps the puzzle car was known as the "Red Skate"?
Thank you for the point. :)
My information came from the Official 50-Race History of the Australian Grand Prix published in 1986.

I'm not sure about his real name and since it's just a (nice) replica it was not that relevant after all.
You found the right car and from a magazine article I found that "Skate III" was also called the "White Car"...
There is another So-Cal Special by G.Reed...this one:

GTC #127 SOLVED: George Reed Special "The Red Car"
« Reply #31 on: June 01, 2015, 10:58:17 AM »
I'm starting my puzzles in the experts from now on because I've not seen a rookie for ages and they simply languish in that section before being promoted.

If you're familiar with this car, let me know for a shiny special point!

I've just noticed that the wheels are those bolt-on wires which were mainly fitted to mundane vehicles. Is this a special built on the frame of a family saloon car from the '30s?
