Solved -PJ408- Bernardini's Fiat 508S special 1949
« on: October 04, 2011, 04:40:28 PM »
READ CAREFULLY:

Here you are a different kind of puzzle.
Try to identify this car.
If you want to play fair, find the answer the old fashioned way.
If you want to cheat, you can easily find it via Google Image Search, 1st page.
If you are dumb, here's the answer:  - Bernardini -, (right click and copy to read it.)

it's a game, if you like to play it go on!

(BTW: if you know the car, don't be afraid to answer immediately!  ;D )

Isn't "etceterini" the plural (or should I say wouldn't it be if there officially was such an Italian word!)?
What would be the singular? "etceterino"?!

Well it's not easy to define the singular of a neologism created in the States to mimick an italian word but here the name comes from the various StanguellINI, VolpINI, BizzarrINI, BandINI, GiannINI, ErmINI etc etc...hence EtceterINI  ;D

So such words don't actually have a plural like we do (1 Austin, 2 Austins etc etc) - it's 1 Volpini, 2 Volpini and so on?

The name itself sounds like a plural but it's a surname and the singular just doesn't exist (like Harris can't be converted into 1 Harry  ;D ).
You can say 2 Ferraris or 2 Austins in English but in Italiano, 1 Alfa Romeo (that sounds singular) and 2 Alfa Romeo, 2 De Tomaso, Allemano and so on.

Thanks!
I did once try learning Italian on an evening course but didn't get very far.
One day I'm determined to try again!

Well done!
This car was registerd in 1950 by Mario Bernardini from Pistoia and it's based on a Fiat 508s.
More on Curami's "La Sport e i suoi Artigiani".
(I have to check the "Biasca" part on the book...)

I misspelt Biasca - it should be Biasci
