The prototype (1928) ?
used a reversed Alvis 12/75 engine and chassis, as the Alvis was a front wheel drive the steering had to be locked and a steering axle at the other end.
The designer Sir Charles Burney was also involved in the design of the ill fated R100.

Other engines used, at the Jam Factory Maidenhead, were 3Ltr Beverley straight 8, Armstrong Siddley 20hp six and a Lycoming straight 8.
Had around independent suspension

Patent was bought by Crossley in 1933


I also read the car was about 20 foot long with a top speed of 40mph.
More like a small Lorry than a car

After having found this Popular Science piece from december 1930, I think, both have been finished at the same time.

The 1928 prototype had a low and rounder nose. It seems to be the car in the middle you can see from the side.

The cars on top are the ones I´ve asked for.
I think, that both are 2 variations of a theme. They were taylor made anyway.

From this advert, it seems you could opt for either of the two frontal designs for the same price. However, only the straight-fronted one came with a guarantee that the car would do 80 mph.

But the upper car in the advert is not the right one in the puzzle pic.

if you have closer look, the car in the puzzle pic has a clearly visible front hood (that could be opened?)
the upper car in the ad has slightly different front beams and no visible front hood

The upper car in the ad is the one shown in the middle of your Popular Science article, which you think is probably the 1928 prototype. My guess is that when this advert was put together, they had only built two cars, and that the "production" straight-fronted type, when they eventually built one, was slightly different from the prototype.

The photo of the two cars at the top of the magazine article shows the straight-fronted one on trade number plates, perhaps meaning that it was so new that it had not yet been registered. The bonnet-fronted car has a standard UK registration number.

It seems, via wikipedia, that all thirteen that were made were different and were made as show cases for his patents rather than serious production.

The designer Sir Charles Burney was also involved in the design of the ill fated R100.

Just a couple of points:
Sir Charles Dennistoun Burney Bt. was normally referred to in period as Dennis, later Sir Dennis, Burney - as he was in that Popular Science article.
R100, the Vickers airship, was not as ill-fated as R101, the government 'ship, except that following the latter's disastrous end R100 was scrapped without further ado.
