Chipman WIND EV 2010 Prototype by Phil Chipman - Chipman Engineering
Motor: Mars ME 0709
72 volt hi torque motor - works well with 48 volt system. Originally had E-Tek motor - but burnt out under heavy load - so moved up to this motor.
Drivetrain:electric motor, direct drive, chain.
Contoller: Alltrax 7234
Batteries: 6 Interstate srm 24, 12.00 Volt, Lead-Acid, Flooded. The builder's manual for the El Chopper ET electric motorcycle by Bidwell did a great trade study on batteries and this one won. It has worked out nicely.
Curb Weight: 526 Pounds (239 Kilograms). Designed to be as light as possible - chrome moly tubing. Without the batteries weight is 280 lbs. As a prototype, trying to keep all weight and cost as low as possible.
Additional Features: Roll bar, low cg, wide front end. All controls - brakes, twist grip, lights, turn signals on handlebars to save weight. Accommodates over six foot driver/passenger. Hydraulic disk brakes front and rear. When shopping alone, passenger area serves as cargo space of 12+ cubic feet. The body is fiberglass composite using the same principles as in surfboards, lays on top of the frame since it is non-structural, and with removal of two pins can be lifted off for access to all internal components.
