I’m not sure that I’ve seen a picture of one of these cars before, but I think this is an invitation to invest in the Cruiser Motor Car Company of Madison, Wisconsin, and it should date from 1917, or perhaps early 1918.
This was an attempt to market a package consisting of a touring car, with a comprehensive set of custom-made camping gear.
I couldn’t find much information, but below is a similar advert, though without a picture, from the Wisconsin Sunday State Journal of 4 November 1917. I think they must have been so pleased with their play on words in the first line that they completely failed to notice the glaring typo….
And then there’s a short piece (just about legible) from the Madison Capital Times dated 3 June 1918, announcing the opening of the factory. The company’s President seems to have changed, and the stock capital has increased, but the other details seem to fit, and there’s a brief description of the car and the camping equipment.
I doubt the investors would have made any money, though, as the company only lasted until 1919.
