Mekes company was based in Parkano in western part of Finland. Here is some translated info. Mekes was founded in 1963 as a conglomerate of several metal industrial companies. In 1965 Mekes started to plan car production. In 1960's Finland there was a great need to enter in automobile industry in some way or another. The idea was to assemble BMW 700 LS car fitted with a Steyr-Puch engine. Production run was estimated to be 16,000 cars a year. At least one prototype was made. Steyr-Puch Haflinger pick-up was another idea. Also in the plans was to produce a two-seat Steyr-Puch sports car. Steyr-Puch however never launched this car called simply "S". It can be seen in Puch Museum in Graz, Austria.
The company managed to design and launch a product of their own; a Mekes 4000. The idea was to merge the qualities of an tractor and 4x4 vehicle. Two prototypes were made and then a limited run of ten vehicles. Three are known to exist. At this time the company suffered financial difficulties and was forced to quit the project. Mekes vehicle was one of the highlights of 2009 Classic car show in Lahti, Finland.
