Yes, and yes - I believe so
-

1957-63 Volkswagen based called Red Presto :)
That's what I was after!
Well done.
A rear view (personally I think it needs slightly wider rear wheels..):

A bigger pic of the period shot:

And here's a bigger version of the pic whcgt posted:
-
Great minds think alike, eh?!
All right then, here's an unmodified version of the original puzzle photo:
-
;)
I think it'll be a really nice looking car when properly restored.
-
No pictures of the restored car yet but here are some of it in the 1960s and as it is at the momenht:
-
Who built this car, when and what was the name he gave? A point is waiting for you!

Experts?

"Red Presto" VW Spezial, 1962
-
This car in fact:

Well, well. This car may be a repost, but I have the name of the builder and he gave another name to this car. So I don't want to merge it. Because it was known as something else.
-
Was it originally called the TRP Special?
It seems to have been built by a student, but I haven't found his name yet.
Were TRP his initials?
-
no, his initials were HV
-
no, his initials were HV
Thanks.
But was the car originally called the TRP?
Or maybe that just stood for 'The Red Presto'...
-
no the car was called something entirely different
-
Professionals?
-
The builder's name was Helmut Vetter.
-
Almost. Locked for you to give me its first name and the name he gave to the car
-
Wendax, any thoughts on this one?
-
All I could find is this bad photograph of a newspaper article. Still trying to decipher it.
-
I am going to help you a lot. The man is from Regensburg. Now if you know where to look and how to look you can find his name and the name of the car online.
Still locked
-
I guessed that from the registration plate and have Googled endlessly using Regensburg as a key word, along with Eigenbau, Special, home-built and VW. Plus other relevant words!
But nothing shows up (in the UK; maybe it does in other countries).
-
" if you know where to look and how to look "
:)
:)
Google won't help you in this case. And it's not on Facebook either.
-
should I unlock?
-
Yes, I searched some newspaper archive online, but couldn't find anything. You may unlock.
-
unlocked then
-
The name of the builder is Harald Vetter.
-
...and the car was named "Fire Arrow".
-
indeed

Thank you. I've been in contact with the current owner of the car for years. He will restore it sooner or later. This is what he told me last year. The car deserves it.
-
I tried contacting the guy who has the website dedicated to The Red Presto, but he failed to reply.
I note the last entries on the site are from 2012, so maybe he no longer has the car and has abandoned the website.
On that site it states that the car was built by a student in 1962, based on a 1957 Beetle..
-
That's him. He still has the car. His name is Oli and He is from Mainz.
-
I heard from the guy who is restoring the car (Oli) but he says it's not finished yet; he's been quite ill for some time but he hopes to have it finished this year.
He says the student who built it did it as part of his studies at university.
It's name then was "Red Artow" (I assume he didn't mean "Red Arrow").
-
Hello everyone, my name is Oli and I am the owner of the Fire Arrow or The Red Presto. A friend showed me this page and that this is about the car. I am still working on the restoration, which has not yet been completed due to a long illness and private reasons. The TRP was built by 2 friends Armin Hell and Helmut Vetter. Armin was the engineer and Helmut the doer. The car was registered in Germany in 1962 and de-registered in 1974.

Hello Oli, nice to hear that the car is still cared for. I'll put the correct year in the headline.
Good luck for getting the Firearrow back on the road again!
-
A letter to the editor by the builder himself:
-
This is the letter to the editor from 1963 from the magazine "Auto Motor und Sport"
-
Auto Motor und Sport 26/1965
-
yes you are right 1965, too fat fingers to write on the phone ;-)
-
Armin Vetter unfortunately passed away last year, but I am in contact with his wife and daughter. There was a second car that was built, I have a picture of it. Both stand next to each other.
-
here are some pictures from before
-
Thank you very much for the extra pictures. I like it a lot in yellow. :)
-
Wendax, where are you from in Germany? Have we already written about facebook?
