You got that wrong. Günter Krieter was 23, and Gerhard Röder was 7 years older than him, that makes him 30.

Nice idea. I am not sure where the "middle class car" bit comes from in the article, as it seems they started with a relative small DKW and ended with the same car. Not sure how I should read this: Did they think of making a production version?

Here's the article in a slightly more readable form.
Of course, if I'd read it properly I would have seen it said "der 7 Jahre ältere Gerhard Röder" not "der 7 Jahre alt Gerhard Röder";  maybe it's because it was written across 2 lines - or maybe it's because I'm stupid!
