This is a mid-1970s Vauxhall prototype, designed to be a Viscount-replacing range-topper, about the Victor/Ventora/VX models.

Bizarrely I saw this actual car parked in Edware Road, London, in the mid-1980s, but sadly didn't take a photo of it.  I forget the exact name, but it was VX something, and featured in Motor magazine as well.

Yes, you're on target there.
But it is known by a specific name so start digging now!
Locked for your reply.

Is it still locked?

Seems so as it was locked until his next reply, but 2 months is pushing it a bit!
Let's ask Djetset then if he wants to reply and give him a last chance; failing a reply within 48 hours will open it up again!

Oophs sorry, overseas at the moment and forgot about this one!  From memory it's something along the lines of Vauxhall Plus.  Close?!

Well if you add the 2  names you've given me together you get the right answer, so I think really you've solved it...  VX something you said, then Vauxhall Plus, and the correct answer is Vauxhall VXPlus, so I think you've (finally!) earned your point!

Well done and sorry oguerrerob but it seems Djetset likes working to deadlines!

It's Ok by me! I just want to add that I've found this car in the web as Vauxhall VX2800i 1978

Interesting..  I'll have to check that out as it differs from what I had..

This prototype used the Vauxhall V6 engine, which certainly existed in 2.8-litre injection form, so the 2800i bit sort of makes sense, but the year is certainly pre-1978 as it appeared originally in Motor magazine in 1976.

According this Finnish source this prototype was built in 1976 and was drove everyday by Vauxhall managing director Bob Price, until 1978 when was published

Somewhat a mongrel of an upgraded Rover P6, Jaguar XJ and some Italian styling ingredients.
Not that bad!

I would have liked one

There seems to be even a bit of BMW 520 in it  ;D

Allemano

You're right, esp. the notchback is BMW E12-ish!
