That would be a bit too straightforward, although I did say it was easy!
It's not an HWM-Jaguar but there is a close relationship.

It is a  HW ALTA Jaguar streamliner built in 1948.

Origin of this car:
John Heath and George Abecassis, owners of the Hersham & Walton Motors company, modified a sports ALTA in 1948 and fitted it with this streamlined body. After being raced by John Heath in Jersey, it received a Jaguar engine instead of the original Alta power unit.

Exactly!
Well done.

Here's another photo of the car at the 1948 Jersey International Road Race meeting. I notice that a lot of internet sites refer to this car as an HW Alta-Jaguar, but since the Alta engine is no longer fitted, surely it's an HW-Jaguar? Or is it twin-engined?
I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia

White12's solution tells us it was once an Alta sportscar so if that's right the name is acceptable I'd say.
What I don't know without looking it up is whether that is in fact right. Doug Nye's "Powered by Jaguar" doesn't help much.
Opinionated but sometimes wrong

I don't know what I was thinking! Mike Lawrence reckons it was an experimental chassis which was gathering dust in Geoffrey Taylor's workshop and George Abecassis fitted a 2-litre Alta engine he already owned. It was indeed an Alta modified by Heath Walton Motors, rather than an HW-Alta, which was what I had in my muddled head.

So the puzzle title is correct. Woodinsight's photo of the car in period shows an interesting early effort at a front air dam.
