Solved - NEH 1382: Moskvich C3 (S3) prototype - 1976
« on: December 02, 2011, 09:46:31 AM »
For the first of today's offerings all you need to do to earn a point is give me this car's full name and from when it dates?

Google Image Search continues to raise its ugly head on AutoPuzzles.
For the sake of our newer members who may not be aware of past discussions on it, Google Image Search as a means of solving puzzles is banned on this website.

AutoPuzzles is primarily a game of automotive knowledge, not of who can copy and paste the quickest.

We ask all members to remember and respect this, and retain the right to ask puzzle-solvers how they came to their answer.

Have fun!

I see where you're coming from, but there's no Nissan connection either.

You're only really allowed one question per post Capt Slow, but I'l let it pass this once..
Nothing to do with Chrysler Rootes but it is something to do with Moskvich!

What Julien wrote, i.e. Moskvich C3, is a full name AFAIK. Don't know what do you have there apart from ithis.

What wingroad gave is what I was looking for as I understood the C3 was an early (1976) prototype for what eventually became the 2141.  Is that not correct?  If not then I'll have to give Julien 1A the point but if it is then it goes to wingroad!   I need the help of a Moskvich expert here please so faksta can you put me straight?!  Thanks.

Here's a rear view of the puzzle car:

No, that was a different project from 2141 with RWD transmission (2141 was FWD). What you have posted here is a clay model of the 1976 S3 (S3, apologize for writing C3 before - it's Russian 's' which looks like latin 'c', so in many places the car is identified as C3).

Thank you Faksta!

Some more information I glanned here and there...:

The 2141 appears 10 years later. If there is no doubt the style of the 2141 was influenced by this prototype for the front of the car but it was not an early version of it. The 2141 obviously took its inspiration from the simca 1307/8 (1975).

Please check the profile, the hood, etc.. you will see that this car is actually quite different from the 2141:

My understanding is that this prototype belongs to a serie a laboratory concept cars: C1,C2, C3, C4 (real, mock-up or only the drawing board):

C1:

if you look at the previous picture, you will see a BMW 5 series that the factory bought in order to copy the underneath.

C2:

C4:

OK, thanks, think we've got to the bottom of it now.
I had all those photos too and whilst the production 2141 does look quite a bit different that is of course quite normal when productionising prototypes.

However, I see now that the 2141 was not actually developed from the C3 despite a few outward similarities, so I'm sorry wingroad but I was asking for more information when I already had everything!

So 1 point awarded to Julien 1A and this puzzle of solved.

Thanks for input.

Check out the 911 in front :) AFAIK AZLK have been in communication with Fiat, Porsche and someone else regarding the possibility of producing their cars on the factory, but have not reached an agreement with them. Moskvich 911  ::) ...
