That's correct yes, it's a VW Scirocco proposal by ItalDesign Giugiaro dating from about 1972.

There are some more pictures on ItalDesign's own website, where curiously they are used to illustrate the VW Scirocco Mk1!  Autocar magazine picked one up and used it to illustrate an item on the Scirocco Mk1 a few months ago, which they never corrected despite me writing to them to point out their error.

If ItalDesign themselves don't know what a Mk1 Scirocco looked like what hope is there for the ordinary non-expert?!!
