I can see this one needs a clue to kickstart it.

The man in the picture (with his wife) was famously associated with a well known sports car make.

Not Cecil Kimber & his wife.
The car is not a Calcott and was built in the early 1920s, not as late as 1926.

Make of the car is two names.
There is a direct link between Lionel Martin and this man.

..but Aston Martin is the well known make?
Was he a pilot?

Aston Martin was the make in the link between the two men (apologies to the wives for not mentioning them).
He was not a pilot.
The puzzle car is, of course, not an Aston Martin but there was a tenuous link between them.

Bert Bertelli?
Bert Bertelli is correct, can you add his wife's name for one point?
Locked for you as far as the people's names are concerned.
The car make and year is worth another point.

I haven't found Mrs. Bertelli's Christian name yet, but could the car be a Enfield-Allday 10/20 from 1921?

Yes that's the car.
So one point for you so far.
Second point is available for Mrs. Bertelli's Christian name.

Bertelli competed at LeMans, Brooklands, the Irish GP and other races between 1929 and 1935, in an Aston Martin
