It's supposed to have a kind of automatic transmission, said to have inspired Van Doorne (DAF)

Home-Made by Gerrit Weijman

(Gerrit Weijman's dad was a designer and bodybuilder at the rather famous carrosserier Veth. He was amongst others responsible for the 1928 Hispano-Suiza of prins Hendrik (husband of the then queen of the Netherlands). Apparently he worked together with Hub van Doorne of DAF fame for some time and switching later on in his career to bodybuilder Schutter & Van Bakel.)

He was working for the Ford factory, which at the time still was building cars in Amsterdam. In his spare time he build this three wheeler with a ILO two-stroke engine. Most interesting is probably the transmission, a kind of Variomatic system as later used in the DAF. The funny thing of the construction is that he could not get a license plate for the car, not even in Belgium, so he could not really enjoy it. It was swapped for a motorcycle and a sewing machine with a KLM-worker.

Unproven is that the transmission was used as an example by Van Doorne. Considering it was made in between 1954 and 1957 and DAF was testing it in around the same time, this I would deem inprobable.
