Solved - MJW #477 - Jowett Jupiter Karossen Sickla
« on: June 10, 2011, 07:45:35 PM »
Looks familiar?
Yes it does to a degree.
What is the make, model and who built the coachwork?

Well it is a Jowett but it is not one of the works' cars.
It is a 'one-off' and has a body built by a specific coachbuilder.

It looks very similar to the New Zealand-built R1 'replica' but that car is based on a shortened Javelin platform which doesn't tally with what you mentioned about this car to me earlier....

Edit: Looking at the picture again it's clear these are totally different cars, the builder of the NZ one seems to have seen the puzzle car at some point and taken a few ideas from it. I'm still stumped as to which one this is!

I wasn't aware of the New Zealand built car.
I understand the puzzle car was a very early Jupiter, one of a batch built by ERA.
The location of the car is a long way from New Zealand when the photo was taken, however I don't know if it's still in that country.

Body built by Hasse Nyström from Sweden in order to compete at ice racing events.

Hasse Nystrom is not the name I have. The car was built by a Swedish coachbuilder for a Mr. E.

After the translation of the Swedish text, I understand that Hasse Nyström owned the car in the 1970s. It is supposed to be a 1953 Jowett Jupiter underneath.

Thanks for that and I confirm that the car is a Jowett Jupiter (a very early one).
All I need now is the name of the coachbuilder in Sweden.

Reviewing Nyström's story and pictures, it appears he was an accomplished builder/mechanic/craftsman. Maybe he did the mods himself?

PM sent.

Thanks for that Otto but as I understand it the original owner of the car commissioned a specific coachbuilder to undertake the bodywork.

Another hint -
Name of the coachbuilder begins with 'S', ends with 'a' and is five letters long.

Setka?
Do the dots represent letters, which would make it 6 letters long...?
