 First I had the impression that this is an ordinary VW transformation, but actually it tells a quite interisting story.

It's a Meller Falke (Falcon), a prototype six-wheeler built on a shortened Beetle chassis by Karl-Heinz Meller in Hamburg in 1980.

He apparently had dealings with Saudi Arabia, and a Saudi prince asked him to design and build a light vehicle for falconry hunting in the desert. There was an intention to put it into small series production, but Meller died suddenly, and the project folded.
Yes, it is. Congratulations, Tom_I.

It would have been a pity to put this puzzle in the Black Hole.

BTW, Karl-Heinz Meller was quite known in Germany for having taken over the Heinkel spare parts business. The car itself was shown at the IAA and featured in the well-known German magazine "stern". I saw the car around 1985 in a sad state on the premises of a DIY garage, painted green and with lots of patina. Fortunately, someone restored it.

Googling Sechsrad and Kaefer did not help me a lot.

So close and yet so far.  ;D ;D ;D

Sechs Räder and Käfer would have shown the picture.  ;)

According to a certain source there should be another one in the desert.

An old article and a view at the mid-engine (!):
(The car is up for sale right now.)
