SOLVED: Djetset #507 - Gerald Palmer Yeoman
« on: May 16, 2011, 04:22:58 PM »
I've haven't posted any new puzzles for some time, so I will address this situation now with the first of a string of new mystery machines.

Here's the first one, which you will gain a point for if you can correctly identify this vehicle.  Good luck!

OK, thanks for letting me know Aaron.  I have now changed the picture of the re-post (is what a Corsair) to this new one above.

Grrr! I'd have this one solved in a second if I was at home....

I think this was a Gerald Palmer -designed prototype (although I've been wrong about that once already today...), presumably built during his time at Scammell. It has a central steering arrangement and may have been powered by his own two stroke engine... >:(

You've done it again Barrett!  You're on the right lines, but just short of some vital details (like what this was called).  Locked to you until your next reply.

Again, the 'net is proving useless in helping me out with this one so you can unlock it and I'll cross my fingers no one else solves it before June 11th!

I don't think anyone will find this one on the internet, so it may well still be sat here waiting for you when you return on 11th June!  It is officially now unlocked again, however, so open to all Experts and Rookies.

Okay, this is called the Yeoman, and it was built in 1953 and was the brainchild of George Wansborough. It uses a Jowett flat twin engine (not Palmer's two stroke) and was intended to be built in developing countries and be simpler (!) than the Land-Rover or Jeep, but there was no funding for the project and only one prototype was built.
