Solved - MJW #320 - Lee Triumph Special
« on: March 01, 2011, 01:56:45 PM »
Another "not quite what it seems" puzzles.
For a point - what car was this based on, what engine did it have and who built it?

I have no idea, but the hardtop makes me think it may have started life as a Tornado?

Well, I have no idea about the hardtop except that it was probably built by the constructer who built the car.
I don't know about a Tornado connection in relation to that.

Well it looks like a healey 3000 kit car.

Obvious one first Sebring?

I think the roof was nicked off a 105e anglia....

It may look like an Austin-Healey kit car but this is a 'one-off'
I don't have many details of the build except for the base car, engine and the name of the man who built it.
The body is the only Austin-Healey element and the base car is much older.
You may be correct regarding the roof though.

Another one that needs a helping hand.

To summarise what we know so far -
British (all elements), Austin-Healey body, 'one-off' built by an individual.

I'm going to award more points now - one for the basis of the car - marque and model (it may have a specially built chassis but the running gear was from a British prewar car)
and another point for the make and size of the British engine it used.
It is believed the car was built in the mid-1950s by a Mr. xxx (possibly another point for the correct answer to that)

:D  - true there are a lot of Mr.xs in my recent puzzles.
This man's surname is three letters long and sounds as if it may be Far Eastern in origin although it's a common enough British name.

Lee?
Lee it is - I don't know his first name or initial though.
One point for you.
Now all I need is the base car and the engine for more points....

Apologies for the slow reply.
It is based on a Triumph - but which model?
The engine isn't Triumph however.
