Solved: Wendax 203 - Morris Oxford Spider by Fiol
« on: May 28, 2011, 03:17:12 AM »
My source did irritate me about the name of this car, because it doesn't fit to the quite obvious base car.

For one point, please respond and identify the base car, the coachbuilder and the year it was built.

I think so, although my source says something different, but it apparently is a Morris Oxford.

The coach builder: Micholetti?
No (not even Michelotti  ;) )

The year:  1952?

It is certainly a Morris Oxford MO grill, but I'm not sure about the rest.
The MO Oxford was always a 4-door and this is 2-door.  The contemporary Minor came in 2-door and 4-door versions so it might be a Minor with an Oxford grill.  But the wheelbase is too long for a Minor.  It also looks a lot lower than a Minor/ Oxford.  From the scuttle back it is not standard Morris at all as the front wingline does not go back that far - in fact it looks rather like a contemporary Opel Olympia.

In short, I'm totally flummoxed and simply putting my thoughts into words.   ???

And my apologies to Signor Michelotti for spelling his name wrong.   :-[

Wendax, does your source say Hindustan Fourteen? If so, it is an Oxford in all but name.

It is not Indian and it is not said to be a Hindustan.

Yes, it is by Fiol and supposed to be a Wolseley. I have a different year though. Locked for you to supply the correct year.

Another point for you.

Perhaps one of our Spanish members can shed some light on the "Wolseley mystery"?

It's certainly a mystery.

The car clearly has the grille from a Morris Oxford MO, with a Morris badge above it. The nearest equivalent Wolseley was the 4/50, which had similar, but not identical, bodywork (the sculpting of the front doors is different). However, it had the traditional Wolseley radiator with the equally traditional illuminated badge set in it. Examples of both standard saloons attached, Morris above, Wolseley below.
