Looks like some kind of Rover 3-litre based Rolls-Royce project?

I would agree it's definitely a Rolls-Royce (or Bentley) prototype of some sort, somewhat badly disguised. It looks a bit on the smallish side to be a Silver Shadow prototype but I guess it could be. More likely it's either the Bentley Burma or Rolls-Royce Tibet project . . . and I tend to think it's the Bentley. As to a date, since the Silver Shadow bowed in 1965 I would date it to just prior to that . . . 1963-64?

Added note: Found the very photo after a brief search - this is test driver John Gaskell taking a break during tests at LeMans with a Burma test car.

Yes, it's the Bentley Burma prototype - well done.
Sorry Carnut if you had said Bentley I would have locked it for you.
Project no. by the way was ADO58.

It was a bit of a toss-up whether I put R-R or Bentley as I was only going by the visuals and I wasn't really sure what it was; I was going to look further into it if I was proved right!
Ah well, can't win them all!

Jeez, take away the fancy-pants grill and what do ya have? (Visually)
Looks kinda work-a-day regular nuthin special. I sorta like it!  :)

Was it a prototype they were actually gonna make or was it just to disguse it?
