MG TD, body by Wendler?
You identified the based car correctly, but the coachbuilder is wrong.
I give you one more try!
After that it's open again.

It definitely is a MG TD.

One Hennefarth car has survived, originally built for German race driver Christian Odendahl:

Now I'm confused.  The first car seems to have a TF grill and headlight treatment, while the other (color photos) has an MGA grill and a different headlight arrangement.  It's been a long time since I had an MGA, but the color photos sure show a resemblance to that model.

Are you saying that Hennefarth created several MG-based models and the later photos are of a car separate from the puzzle photo?

I'm also confused about the subject.  I'm not sure how it can be a TD and a TF 1500 at the same time.

Help?

I'm quite sure that the surviving car was modified later on, in order to make the front look more like an MGA.

That's certainly within the realm of possibility.
