Title: Solved - als_034 - Simca Aronde Olympic by Ghia
Post by: als15 on July 02, 2010, 03:58:25 PM
This one starts directly at Expert level because I think is not so easy. I too don't know the exact answer...  ;)
The picture has been taken in front of Abarth factory most likely in 1953.
You can have fun identifying all the cars, but only one will worth you the point: the second from left.
There is anybody able to tell me what is it actually?

I get more of a special built Ferrari feeling.... a 166 or so..... built by Abarth ???

And I'd guess it's Fiat-based.

Friends, I really don't know!
So, this time the answer also needs to be supported by some evidence by you.
I can just say that it isn't an official Abarth model, but in fact only the fist one is widely known as an Abarth tuned car (even if not made by Abarth). Also the other 3 are supposed not to ever have been tuned by Abarth, but we now have this picture...  ???

The caption only says:
"Via Trecate 10* in 1953, has a variety of automobiles which sports car and racing drivers finf only at Abarth & C."

*Abarth factory address at that time, before Corso Marche.

The second car from the left is a Ghia-bodied Simca Aronde Olympic.

And the others anyone?

#3 is a Fiat 1100 and given the location I expect it's a TV.

#1 is probably a 1953 Ghia 1100 Siluro Abarth

It is indeed a Fiat 1100, but not a TV because it doesn't have the third headlamp in the middle of the grille. The #4 is another 1100 and actually we don't know wether a TV or not, because neither the grill nor the tail are visible; being in single-color, however, I should say a standard version.

Yes, that's indeed the Siluro 103 by Ghia.

Only the 5# is still unidentified, but is quite easy...  ;) Only, it is strange to see one in front of Abarth factory.

Indeed! And even if the picture is not very clear, it could be the special one made for the famous car-photographer Bertazzini, author of many period press-pictures.
