The 914 pick-up wasn't included where I hoped to find some information about it, so please unlock and open for all.

Though strikingly similar that seems to be another conversion. At least I have a different name for it!

Here's the unveiled pic:

Hmmmmmm.... the omission of the VW part of the name points to the USA, but the Opel Manta taillights say Germany. Was the conversion done by Porsche themselves?

It wasn't converted by Porsche, but the trail leads indeed to the U.S..

Actually, I think this is the same vehicle that Amsterdam posted.

It is one of two pickup conversions made by Dick Troutman, who (with Tom Barnes) was known for building sports cars for road racing.

He apparently went to Aase Brothers in Anaheim, California, (a salvage yard specialising in Porsches) to buy a 914-6 they had for sale, and mentioned to one of the Aase brothers that he was going to make a pickup out of it. Dave Aase asked if he would make a second pickup out of a 914 of theirs, and it appears that that is the puzzle car.

Quote
The Aase Brother’s used the 914 pick-up as a shop truck to transport all sorts of parts for their dismantling business. Dave remembers that a VW magazine did a feature on the pick-up, and had a full page spread with Renee Vaughn (adult entertainer) posing on the car. The pick-up was painted brown at the time and had Aase Brother’s business advertised on the rear quarters.

That's the ticket! I had this one as the Troutman 914 pick-up and wasn't aware of Tom's explanation.
One point for Amsterdam, one for Tom_I! :)

A logical choice for the conversion, since the Porsche 914 looked like a pick-up truck from the start to me...
