Solved: Allemano's № 532 - Pat Hoare's Ferrari "Charlotte"
« on: December 07, 2010, 12:45:21 PM »
Today I found this in a wrong folder and I remembered that it's shelved on my HD for years. Once I posted that very pic on another forum, but never got a definite name for it. At least I was told what it appearantly isn't...
So, I don't know what it is except of the make underneath, but for a point I need something reliable...

Not a Jag!
As I've mentioned I have very few infos about this car. I have a make, a (nick)name and a (possible) country where it was built, resp. where the builder lived.

Pat Hoare's Ferrari.
NZ.

It started out as a '58 Dino 246 F1 Chassis # 0007.

Was modified by Ferrari with a V12 TR  engine for Pat Hoare and renumbered as 0788F.

He raced it in Nz in '61 and '62.

In '65 it got the sportscar body, done by Mc Winnie's in NZ.

In '78 it went to Neil Corner in the UK, who had it restored back to original by Chrostwhaite & Gardner.

In my opinion, this is a car that deserves live again, maybe with a recreation engine. Did someone knows what happens with the Charlotte body after the car restoration to its original F1 body?

I agree.

That would be nice.

Lets hope they saved the body....

Exactly. It would be a crime if this body was ever intently destroyed. It realy does deserve to live again like you say.

I think its kind of a shame that this cars rich history got erased like that...

Its early racing history was significant ( raced by Phil Hill, Wolfgang v. Trips, Olivier Gendebien, and Dan Gurney ), but it was modified for racing in NZ by the factory.

And Enzo knew about it in its Sportscar form, calling it the fastest Street Ferrari...

So if it had to loose its sportscar body at all, I would have chosen the 0788F version.

But its probably worth more as the 0007...

An accurate recreation of it as the sportscar would be nice, or if that is not possible, in the very least drop it over a '80s Ferrari 400 driveline.
