Q765 - solved - Ghia prototype (more info needed)
« on: August 19, 2011, 03:14:38 PM »
What do you know about this? I have a coachbuilder and an approximate date - do you? If so, it's worth a point.
Any extra info gratefully received

I've seen this car before, maybe here on AP, and wondered then what it was.
Someone gave the answer but I'm blowed if I can remember..

Those wheels look like Mk1 Ford Granada; is there a connection?

I really know very little about this other than the coachbuilder, but I strongly suspect the basis is Ford

A wild guess but could it be by Pininfarina mid-1970s?

Is it a Gmachmeir Granada-based creation?

Ghia is correct, so a point goes to Allemano.
This photo appears in a very well known book about Ghia, and I must have seen it a hundred times without ever clocking that it's a completely unknown car. There's no caption but the era is obviously mid-1970s. I've had the photo waved under Tom Tjaarda's nose and while he agrees it's got all the hallmarks of his penwork, he doesn't remember it at all...
If anyone can help with more info, please do come forward!

There's a rel. similar sketch in this book you've mentioned dating from 1984 by Tom Tjaarda's Dimensione Design.

And yes, now I recognized the same picture you've posted a cropped version of.   ;D
On that picture the car is grouped with some other Ford Ghia projects.

A Ghia design?

That was my very next question but I had to await Quiller's answer to my "Is it Italian?" question (only one question allowed at once..!)

I have been Googling for the last 2 or 3 weeks for a Ghia-bodied Ford Granada-based prototype but without this coming up at all.  I didn't believe it could be anything else, the wheels being the giveaway as of course Ford owned Ghia at that time (1970's).

Sorry, but that's not completely true Carnut. Of course you don't have to wait till the puzzle's author replies. You just have to post another reply. It's only about one guess per post;)

At least another pic, but no further info. Most probably a stillborn (Ghia) Ford sports coupé project
