Not that. Remember we're looking for a 'region'...

It's not named after a town but an 'area' (not Lake District by the way)

Britten-Norman?

I was thinking of their Islander, perhaps being an area; or even 'Britten' being a corruption of 'Britain'!

Neither of those.
Remember: a region with a population of circa 80,000....

Manx 201 designed and built by airship designer Roger Munk (Airship Industries) in 1993.
The mid-engined coupe used a lightweight honeycomb chassis and carbon-Kevlar bodywork to keep weight down to only 975kg. It was planned to fit a flat-8 3.3 litre engine with a revolutionary crankshaft but this did not reach fruition.
It had been claimed that, in twin-turbo form, it would produce an output of 340 bhp powering the car to a maximum of 290kph. Despite announcing plans to make 70 cars per annum, the necessary finance never materialised.

That's the car! A very interesting project. Other than a sole report in Autocar magazine (and the Beaulieu encyclopedia entry you've quoted), I've never seen any other info or pics on this car.
