They look like Moon Eyes to me, but the car is not named for that.

Those are half-hearted Moon type eyes.
Dean Moon woulda done a much more pro looking job I would think.

One of the early “Moon” sponsored cars was Creighton Hunter’s innovative 1957 “Slice-O-Pie” dragster that featured an aluminum wedge shaped body with a “sidewinding” 276ci Mercury with direct chain drive and a hand operated jack stand starting system.

From what I've read, the Mooneyes logo was cleaned up by someone who worked at Disney.

This must have been done before that...

And Dean Moon did not own or race this car, but according to the site where I found the Info, he did sponsor it.

The car was fast for its day.
I'm guessing, because of its bare bones design, it must have been very light.

According to a major web site about Kustoms, the frame of "Slice-O-Pie" was built by Dale Kersh.  Legend has it that Kersh also created the logo on the side, when he partly filled in the numbers of car # 00.

Here is an image showing why you would call a car Slice Of Pie, and a picture of the sideways, tri-carb flathead V8.
