So AMC was interested in getting in to racing their new Javelin.  They brought Gordon Johncock, at that time a still-rising star of USAC and Indy cars, to put the Javelin through the ringer in order to get a better idea of where improvements would need to be made to make it competitive.  Johncock wrote up his driving impressions which were published in Popular Mechanics in November 1967.  Not the most flattering of reviews, but apparently AMC was very serious and listened to each of Johncock's criticisms, as the Javelins, led by Mark Donohue, kicked everyone else's butt in the 1971 Trans-Am series.  In August, 2010, Donohue's 1971 Javelin sold for $847,000.
