OK, so this is probably the hardest group puzzle from me thus far.

Everyone knows that motor racing is an expensive thing, and there have often been attempts to make the whole business cheaper by proposing some new formulae, sometimes successfully, sometimes not. Here are 12 such attempts, each representing a different formula and a different manufacturer. One point awaits everyone who names the vehicle and the formula. Some hints will follow.

Answers:

1. Fittipaldi - Volkswagen (Formula Brasil) metalshapes
2. Stohr F1000 (Formula 1000) metalshapes
3. CRS - Fiat (Formula Fire) pnegyesi
4. Marquis Stinger - Fuji Chaparral (Formula 440) metalshapes
5. Bellco Falcon 77A (FL500) pnegyesi
6. MEP X27 - Citroen (Formule Bleue) yves
7. Scarab Mk5 (Formula Vee) metalshapes
8. Martini - BMW (Formel M) metalshapes
9. SuperSpeeds Formula Maruti (Formula Maruti) pnegyesi
10. MTX 1-01 - Skoda (Formule Skoda) metalshapes
11. Quantum IV - Saab (Formula S) metalshapes
12. Swift DB-1 - Honda (Formula F) metalshapes

Points:

metalshapes - 8
pnegyesi - 3
yves - 1

No, sorry, no Promot here, and no Formula Easter cars.

Actually, there are enough cars and formulae to make a second edition, I think, if this one will be interesting enough :)

Very good!

#10, 11 and 12 - basically right, but they now call Formula Ford Formula F (maybe to allow the use of other engines?), while Saab Quantum IV is rather Quantum IV - Saab (made by Quantum Motorcar Corp.). Can you name the model of the MTX? #10 is locked for you until your next reply.

#1 is a Fittipaldi, but not Formula Vee. Locked until your next reply as well.

#2 and #7 - right.

#4 is partly right (formula). The picture on that page was signed wrongly, I suppose, as the name on the car's nose is different, and the car with that name indeed existed and looked the same (will post a proof after solving). Locked for you until your next reply.

I found another pic where its called the Marquis Stinger.

And it does seem to say Stinger across the nose...

( I went by caption of that exact pic earlyer, but I had my doubts )

Yes, it is a Marquis Stinger for Formula 440 with a Fuji Chaparral snowmobile engine. Now they are used in Formula 500 - don't know whether it is a direct successor or just a replacement class. I'll post the ad I've found later - it's on another computer.
