Thanks but can't really find anything about this car.
Suppose it's based on a Snipe, but as for the coachbuilder it's just a stab in the dark.

Yes, It's a Humber Snipe Staff Car (I'd forgotten to put the Staff Car bit in because it was so obvious...!)

Clue : It's not British!

That's interesting because when I first saw I thought it looked very German.  But then I thought it couldn't be in 1940!

But is it a German body?

Not Gläser...

Was it actually bodied by an established coach-builder or was it perhaps a body cobbled together from a German production car, maybe an Opel?

The staff car was rebodied by Karmann in 1945 and belonged to Field Marshal Montgomery.

I'm not sure about the Montgomery connection.

His famous WW2 Humber staff car, known as "Old Faithful" is (or at least was when I last saw it) on display at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, Cambridgeshire, UK.

It surely isn't "Old Faithful". Probably the order came from his staff. There were also 15 Humber convertibles (or tourers) bodied by Hebmüller after the war.

Karmann started in 1945 with the rebodying of several Humber Snipes for the British army. They used the moldings of the sedan body for the Adler 2 Liter and adapted the body with lots of manual work to the Humber chassis. The British officers liked the first rebodied Humbers, so against older plans the reparation of the Karmann factory towards Russia was called off. The manufacture of the Humber rebodies lasted at least until 1946.
