Coachbuilt body?

I don't think so..It's an "old" car with an adapted body

Since even in earlier times it was quite uncommon to rebody cars unless for competetive reasons, it probably was a valuable chassis whose body was outdated. So I start at the very top, especially since the decal on the bumper wasn't used by too many a manufacturer. My first guess: Hispano-Suiza.

So it is more obscure, well done.
I estimate the body being built around 1935. Was the maker of the chassis still active at that time?

Since you ruled out Delahaye, the only French car manufacturer left, who quitted car production in 1954, is Hotchkiss. Am I right?

No,the year is 1953..and not Hotchkiss or Salmson  ;)

Regarding which companies you ruled out, and excluding those closing down before 1953 (Bugatti 1951, Chenard & Walcker 1937, Delaunay-Belleville 1948), leaves only one French up-market manufacturer, that is Voisin. Or have I made a mistake?

Not Voisin,Bugatti,Chenard & Walcker or Delaunay-Belleville.

In 1935, a sports car with a 954 or 1100 cc Ruby engine and four-wheel drive was introduced. These were sold almost exclusively in France. Some 1,000 of the sports cars with a Ruby engine had been sold!

Okay, then it's Georges Irat. I forgot that they built the Voiture du Bled (VDB) until 1953, and because I was looking in a 1935 catalogue of French cars, I forgot that before the little Ruby-engined sports car, they built quite impressive cars. Do you know whether there is a 11 CV or a 15 CV underneath the newer body?

Yes,It's a Georges Irat  ;D It's from 1927,so I believe it's a 15cv or maybe a late 4A. With a Salmson S4 body?
