I know that this car is a Mercedes-Wartburg made to be a taxi isn“t it??
The Mercedes-Wartburg was intended for the local taxi trade and a 25cm extension to the bonnet and wings was necessary to cover the 170V chassis. The Wartburg 311 shell must have been gutted and filleted in the process but apart from the slight stretch and the bigger 16 inch wheels you could almost mistake it for a Wartburg – if you ignored the Mercedes radiator grille. Bearing in mind the age of the 170V, this was probably not a cosmetic item.

What is the story?  Was this was made by Wartburg in East Germany using 170V chassis and running gear supplied by Daimler-Benz in West Germany.  Or was it done by a company independent of both?

Between 1956 and 1960 the coachbuilder Schwarze from Görlitz, Eastern Germany, built around 20 of these rebodied pre-war Mercedes-Benz 170 V using Wartburg 311 bodies. They were mostly used as taxis. Schwarze built even one convertible Wartburg-Mercedes.
