This is going to a difficult one to solve I think.
As a first hint, this home-made car uses an auxiliary engine that was used in the American Catalina flying boats of WWII.

My source doesn't give power output or what the engine was used for in the Catalina.
However I expect you are correct.
I can tell you the engine in the car is an air-cooled flat-twin unit of 480cc and revving up to 5000rpm

I'm changing this one into a 2 point puzzle to encourage a solution.
One point for the name of the car (the same as the surname of the man who built it) and another for the make of the engine.

Name of builder/car
clue - six letters (three to do with fuel and three to do with relatives)

Name of engine
clue - a famous person connected to the Middle East

Gasson - first three letters are correct, therefore it is GASxxx we're looking for..
Lawrence - is correct although I believe the engine make is Lawrance.

I dislike having to solve puzzles this way but to be honest I doubt if this obscure one would have escaped the BH.
I'd rather it was solved in order to add to people's knowledge....

The car was made by Cliff Gaskin, using many Austin 7 parts as well as bits of his own design and manufacture...:
