Fun #123 - 1970 Corvette Scirocco
« on: December 21, 2011, 04:26:06 AM »
It's a what? Well, it depends...what day is it?

For 1 point, ID this this custom (not just the base car) and what it was called, as pictured here, what it had been named in its previous form, and what it was named in its next form.

Be sure to answer all three parts of the question, if you'd like the point. Only complete answers will earn a point

Wow, that's a lot of information for one point!  But actually, entirely appropriate for this particular car.  Let's see if I can get it all in:

This Corvette show car started out as a stock 1968 Corvette, and was modified by GM Styling to become the 1969 Aero Coupe. It featured styling predictive of the 1970 Corvette. In 1970, it was again modified and renamed Scirocco, with different side-pipe covers and a body-colored grille assembly (among other changes). Finally in 1974 the car was restyled yet again and became the Mulsanne, with 1975-style front and rear styling and doing away with the pop-up headlights.

GM's Chief of Styling during all this, Bill Mitchell, called the Mulsanne “the greatest Stingray ever”.

So. to properly answer the question, the car pictured is the 1970 Corvette Scirocco GM show car, which was the 1969 Corvette Aero Coupe in its previous form, and the 1974 Corvette Mulsanne in its next form. How did I do?

Correct and complete. You're right, that was a lot for one point, so here's two.
