This is a 3/8ths scale model of a future gas turbine powered car exhibited at the Festival of Britain in 1951.

It was designed by E.G.M. Wilkes, H.G. Poole and P.J. Ashmore.

I don't think it ever actually had a name but was captioned "Turbocar of the Future" and never, of course, came to anything!

Wow! I thought this one would last much longer. The caption to the photo read:

"1951 Car of the Future. A scale model for the Festival of Britain. The designers were asked to  indicate a possible car for 1965, using a gas turbine at the rear. Lack of data prevented the effect of engine weight on stability from being considered. Integral chassis and body construction, waist-high side-panels and good forward visibility epitomized current trends. The unusual width of 6 feet 3 inches, to seat seven persons, is brilliantly disguised by crisp body lines. Designed by E.G.M. Wilkes, Hugo G Poole, and Peter J. Ashmore for the Council of Industrial Design"
