Sorry for the blurry picture.

For one point, please respond and identify this car by naming its base, its nickname and its year of build.

anything to do with the alfa disco volante?

Wendax

I would say it is inspired by the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante as "Disco Volante" is even part of its name.

Sorry, I edited my post while you replied  ;)

Wendax

Congratulations, it is the Rover Ten Disco Volante. I just need the year and the point is yours. Locked of course.

By Mitchenall Bros. From Darrington, built for RAF Lt. Crowley? 1953?

Wendax

1953 is the right year. The point will be awarded.
I don't have any information about the coachbuilder or the initial owner, so you may well be right with that one.

Following up the lead, I've got the 1953 Motor Sport article in front of me (page 616).
As stated, it's on a Rover 10 chassis which was from 1939 and I see that there is still a 1200cc white Rover, first used in 1939, with that registration number known to the licensing people - although they have it as "first registered 1:4:1984".
Opinionated but sometimes wrong
