Wow - amazing pictures. I'd love to know the stories behind them.

The first one in from the 1930 film 'The Big Trail': lowering the wagons (into Jackson Hole I believe). There is a similar scene in a more modern film I think.
The other was taken in Paris in 1895. A locomotive couldn't stop in time tore a gig hole in the Montparnasse Station's wall, and fell down from the upper level into the street.

Covered wagons or locomotives, going down the wall and not up, bring no point I guess.

That looks like appx 45 degrees

These ones rise no more than 45 degrees too, but up against thin air, which seems a more difficult feat to me.
