Daus 214, built in 1958 by the chief constructor of Tempo-Werke, producer of light delvery vehicles.
He built at least two other surviving prototypes:
1) a microcar, shown for a long time in the former Hillers Auto Museum in Hamburg, now at the Bruce Weiner Microcar Museum in Georgia.
2) a light truck, prototype for the Tempo Wiking, now at the Prototyp Museum in Hamburg. That car was restored last year, and I saw it by chance on the way to the museum, still unrestored on an open trailer, passing by as I waited at red traffic lights. That was real-life Auto Puzzles  ;)

Wow, thank you!

But I´ve always thought its original paint wasn´t looking like a 1970´s german police car...

Some dark gray or even camouflage style paint would make it look ways better.

I guess the colour is fairly correct as it was not meant for the Bundeswehr, but the Bundesgrenzschutz.

The Daus was displayed at last year's veteran car meeting in Lübeck-Blankensee I missed unfortunately. I'm looking forward to this year's edition. Some cars shown in Lübeck in former years already made their appearance here:

Two more early pictures of the prototype:
