Who is this gentleman? What is his car? And why is it special?

A car powered by "holzgas" but I don't know which or who the person is.
I have seen a similar car recently but not the car in question.
Anyway - perhaps this is German?

It certainly is a wood-burning car, but owned by whom, and why was it special?
Keep diggin, I'm sure you'll find it!

Is that a large spread eagle badge on the radiator behind that heat-exchanger thing? Is the car an Adler?

That was the first thing I´ve seen, too, of course.

But that did not bring me on, really.

If it is a converted Adler Diplomat it has non-stock fenders with integrated front beams.

It looks so familiar, but I do not know more...

Well spotted, it is an Adler Diplomat.

We've got what it is and what makes it unusual, still need a 'who' to complete the answer...
I have a feeling this will end up in the dreaded hole, I'm not sure there is anything on the internet about this...

Having a closer look to his clothes, I think he photo looks like it was shot long after the war - ca. 1960´s -1970´s.

Must have been a shrewd guy if he has been using it regularly then...

You're on to something there..... though it might be even later (elderly gentlemen rarely wear up-to-date attire!)

I remember seeing this very picture in a mid-'70s issue of CAR magazine in an article that featured the wood-burning cars.

BH - if anyone can find that copy of Car magazine I'm pretty sure this is where the picture originates from...

Now I have got a name: it is Emil Reichert, brother of the founder of the Marxzell car museum. He was teacher in Karlsruhe. He also owned a Mauser Einspurauto amongst other veteran cars.

Apologies for the tardy reply, I've been rather busy this week. You are correct, and frankly I'm amazed you managed to find it!
I may be mistaken, but I believe the ettiquette for solving black hole puzzles is to award two points... so well done, they are both very well deserved. Tom_I also gets one for identifying the car as an Adler!

Thank you! Emil Reichert was very individual as a teacher, too. You can find stories (in German) of him giving good grades in return for a 25 Cent donation for his veteran car collection, or pupils having the choice of penalty: either copying several pages out of the biology book or being pulled at their hair for one minute by Emil Reichert.
