It sounds like Carnut has got the difficult part of this one, which is it's name. 

I can help out with some easier parts, but frustratingly do not know what it was called!  I car is alleged to be a prototype built by a Southampton-based company with aeronautical interests.  The car has a 1960 Bournemouith-issued number plate, and the door catch is taken from a pre-War Austin Ten.  That's my contribution for now, but i still don't know what it was called. :-\

This car was actually registered on 3rd March 1959 as an "F.W.R."
It was registered by its owner, listed as "F.W.R. Ltd" which doesn't tell you much - not even their address!
Although there is a company named F.W.R. Ltd in existence today which sells motorcyles and spares and tyres for them, they are in London and have no connection with the company which made this car at all, having been established only 16 years ago.

So I'm sorry to say I can add nothing further, but at least now we have a name!

And Djetset's doorhandle ID must be worth a bunch of points!!

Well done guys! How did you get that information carnut? It seems like you've done a fair amount of digging to get the name!

With this being a black hole puzzle, I've awarded you two points which puts you just one point away from becoming a pro!

Southampton is not too far away from Brighton, so maybe I'll take a trip over there when I get back to Blighty and see if I can dig up anything else...

And Djetset - I was so impressed that you recognised those doorhandles and now you've disclosed your source!  Are they actual or just similar?  I have no idea...

Very interesting puzzle and I'm sure more info will be out there somewhere, but it's going to take some finding.
