5- Lamborghini

The black and white photo removes a major clue, but #1 is a Ford YT16, current 1984-87.

Ford have made quite a few different cars in their time, but here's one that's contemporary with the mower - an '84 Mustang.

Right!

I reckon #5 was made by J.I. Case of Wisconsin, an agricultural machinery company founded in the 1840s. I think it's a Case 442 garden tractor, but I'm not certain. There are lots of different models, and they all look quite similar. If that's what it is, it was introduced in 1969 and made through until the late 1980s.

The J.I. Case Threshing Machine Company Inc., as it was then called, made cars from about 1910 to 1927, though I don't think it was ever a large part of their business. Below is an advert for a Case Six from 1918.

It's a 444, but I'm not looking for precise mower model numbers - nicely done!

I'm thinking of writing a book. I've got the title - "The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Autopuzzler".

So mower #4 is not American and not Australian. I got nowhere with Japanese manufacturers, and I was sure that it wasn't British.

So turning to mainland Europe, I looked for manufacturers of domestic lawnmowers using search terms in French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese (I thought I'd leave Eastern Europe and Scandinavia for another time). I sorted the names into alphabetical order, and started at the beginning. And the last one on the list was.....

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, mower #4 is a Zündapp MM20.

For a car to go with it, here's one of my favourite microcars of all time, the symmetrical Zündapp Janus, named after the Roman god of gates and doors, who is depicted as having a head with two faces pointing in opposite directions.

Thank you, and goodnight! ;D

Or you could call it "The Loneliness of the Professional AutoPuzzler" - as you're about to find out!

The book has already been written, but we're pleased to add another chapter!

Nice job on the Zündapp Rasenmäher MM20 - I really expected that would be one of the first to be solved, not the toughest of the lot.

That's three hard-won points for Tom_I, two for neilshouse, and one for Djetset!

#1   Ford YT16 & Ford Mustang / Tom_I
#2   Reo Royale Deluxe Model 211 & 1931 Reo Royale Victoria Eight / neilshouse
#3   Light Atco Mower & Atco Training Car / Djetset
#4   Zündapp Rasenmäher MM20 &    Zündapp Janus / Tom_I
#5   Case 444 &   Case Six from 1918 / Tom_I
#6   Sears SS16 Twin   & Sears Motor Buggy / neilshouse
