The steering wheel position probably says nothing (Lancia kept it on that side up until I think the sixties?), still I ask: British? (it reminds me of a Lledo MG miniature I have)

A loose interpretation of a classic Alfa I would say, but not an accurate replica.

A very loose Alfa-inspired 'replica' but not made by Appennine.

Yes, I believe so, although originally it used some MGB components before being replaced with Alfa parts.

This one has been too quiet for too long, so here is another photo which might help save it from the Black Hole.

Ah, that's the beast.  I thought I'd originally asked for more information on the car, such as who built it, but looking at my first post I didn't, so I will happily award you a point PJ.

However, I will keep this one open as I would now also like the name of its creator for an extra point please.

His first name is David, and he is from Nunney near Frome, Somerset.

Well, well, well   fame (of a sort) at last!

Hi folks - its taken a while to track me down -I  am the builder of the car.  Its a real bits-arrinni! (ie a special !)  Congratulations Wendax - though I'd be interested to hear how you found out my name and location!

Back in 1989 I had a car made - a Lenham Healey using MG running gear.  About 10 years ago I replaced the MG engine with one from an Alfa Romeo (1750 GTV).  I remodelled the front of the car to look like a rough homage to the 1936 AR 2900A Mille Miglia racing cars.  So the engine/gearbox is Alfa, the axles MGB (needed for wire wheels), boat tail Lenham and the front of the car (slightly unsymmetrical!) by myself

I attended the BIAMF  yesterday and the car caused a few people to scratch their heads and just like this site - people saw in it a bit of this and a bit of that (hence the bits-arrinni)!   All good fun

A real AR 8C  2900A is worth £3m plus (about £3m more than I can afford) so I see the car as an evocation -  Think of it like this: you'd love to watch a concert by say The Beatles or Elvis Presley but for obvious reasons you can't, in which case why not watch a tribute band and enjoy the show at that level?

Once again congratulations

If I remember right, you posted that on a Alfa Romeo Forum.

Hmmm, this could be a first, as I don't think we've ever had the builder of a mystery car help answer the puzzle!  ???

I'm going to give Wendax a point for getting nearly all of the builder's details correct, although we are still missing creator David's surname, which is now very easy to find, so I will complete the puzzle and confirm that it's Roots.

Nice to hear from you too David.  We met last year at the Rare Breeds event at the Haynes Motor Museum, where I mentioned I had posted an image of your car, having taken the photo at the Brooklands Italian Car Day earlier in the year.  Maybe see you there again this coming weekend?

Hi Djetset,

As I said congratulations to Wendax for identifying the car .  I didn't make Brooklands this year - but - if anyone is interested in Italian cars/bikes (and not just mine!) there is a 'new' event on 22 May :  Beaulieu ‘Simply Italian’  that I will be attending.
The website is: http://www.beaulieu.co.uk/beaulieu-events/simply-italian     from where I quote:
"The first Beaulieu ‘Simply Italian’ event takes place on Sunday 22nd May and promises to be a great day out for all enthusiasts of Italian marques. Owners of Italian vehicles are invited to bring their car or motorcycle to Beaulieu, both classic and new, and become part of the event. All Italian marques, from Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lancia, Maserati and Lamborghini to Ducati, Aprilia and Benelli are welcome
For entrants arriving on the day in their Italian car and joining the event on the Beaulieu Parkland, individual prices are adult £10 and child £5. For motorcycle riders and pillion passengers, prices are £5 per person. To book in advance please click here and select 'Event Tickets' and 'Simply Italian 2011' or for more information about group or club entry and concession prices, telephone 01590 612888. All other entries will be via Beaulieu main reception at normal admission prices.
Admission to the event includes entry to the whole Beaulieu attraction; the National Motor Museum and World of Top Gear, Palace House and gardens and Beaulieu Abbey. "

If the event is successful there may be a few obscure Italian vehicles which may be of interest to you autopuzzlers?
