Though this car is no dragster, this former military airfield was the site of an important drag race, four years after this photo was taken.

The car in the photo was classified in last place, and was the only car of it's type to run in this airfield road race.

The Junior Pickrel Chevy 6 "Big Car!" It raced on May 30, 1951, the only "Big Car" that raced that day. It dropped a drag link and finished last. It was owned by the Ricketts brothers.

By the way, it was a "Hot Rods vs. Big Cars" event. All the big cars but this one boycotted thanks to a too small purse. That sure doesn't look like a big car to me!
