What is the source vehicle for this surly beast, what event is this (and year), and who's the driver?  One point for ALL of the above.

Is it based on a truck?

I have very little info about the mechanical makeup other than a make and engine...it's possible it could be based on a truck, but it could also be based on a car.

Looks as if it might be the final driving tests on the Monte Carlo Rally of the 1930s.
Various Ford specials competed, and this looks like one of them.
I can say it is not the 1936 winner, a Ford V-8 assembled from spare parts in Bucharest and driven by Zamfirescu and Cristea which looked like:

Allan, you are very close.  It is the final driving test of the Monte Carlo Rally.  It is a Ford V8 Special... Everything else is very closely within reach.  Locked for you until your next reply (or 72 hrs).

I see that Baker-Shut and Ton won in 1938 driving a Ford. Perhaps, if it was a Special, that may be what we are looking at.

Nope, go back...you had more right before...I'll give you a hint.  Cristea was the driver...

Petre Cristea drove a Ford in the Monte in 1934 and 35 to finish 18th and 15th.
Can't find photos of the car, so let me guess 1935 - perhaps the twin rear wheels were the result of experience the previous year.

well it might be 1937 when he was disqualified because the rear wheels were not fully covered by the wings.
Would have expected that car to look more like the 1936 winner, but so what?

Now that's the one...I'm not sure if this is a different car altogether than the 1936 one, either.  It sure looks different.
