A#404 Solved: a mysterious prototype/proposal for SsangYong
« on: August 21, 2010, 12:09:00 PM »
Fourth mystery in the set.

I don't know exactly what is this car so one point is for the closest answer.

I'd like to get more information about this car, if possible.

This one is tough, I suppose, since I don't have much info about it myself. However, the answer, as accurate as possible, will be awarded a deserved point.

If you want to have them solved, probably some clues are needed and if no one have a go...
European?

Little information I have about this car, so only the questions will be followed by the clues.

According to my source, it's not European. It is said that the car has been built as a prototype for a well known manufacturer (not European either). I'll award the point for the correct name of this manufcaturer.

Asia?

Yes, Asian (the known manufacturer, I mean). However, the source (which gives no exact and reliable info) makes me think it has been built not in Asian.

Ssangyong?

PJ is doing great today :)

SsangYong it is!

This is all I have:

Quote
It is a one-off built by a consortium as a prototype for production for Ssyong Yang (Spelling?) but didn't get the go-ahead. It was styled in the Ford Styling Dept and the chassis was set up for Holden Gemini running gear. The standard of the GRP bodywork is amazingly good (unlike many "specials") The car has no doors, like a clubman, and the chassis is full height so it should be OK for beam strength. An engineer has looked at the car and has indicated that the chassis will meet the required tests. The chassis has been set up for a Mazda MX5 engine and gear box from a 05-05 onwards, this is the 2ltr 6speed. I have for sale sepratley the engine to suit, it has all the suspension in and working. COD on pick up is prefered.

Let's move it to solved!
