Who-what-where by Ray B. #493 - 1953 Lincoln Maharajah
« on: August 14, 2010, 12:44:46 PM »

By courtesy of Otto Puzzell (or is it Paul Jaray?), another Who-what-were of my own.

The question, as you may have guessed, is: who? what (car)? where?when?

The last 3 answers you may find more or less easily. One point for the package. The first one, I must say I have no idea. One almost impossible-to-get-point for the exact answer.

If you haven't registered yet, you need to do so in order to reply with your answer. You can do so by clicking here.
Also, please be sure to check out our other puzzles, and, please post a puzzle of your own if you'd like - the more, the merrier.

Thanks!

I missed this one...
Year 1953, the car is a Lincoln Mharajah.
Details will follow shortly.

The question, as you may have guessed, is: who? what (car)? where?when?
Who: the man is not visible in the pic I have (same one but cropped) and I have no-idea!
What: Lincoln Capri Coupe 4-door sedan "the Maharahjah"
Where: I can only guess, since they move the same stand along various salons...
When: 1953.

I'll try to be more specific on the "where" part, but I can add that this car was shown togheter with other 3 Capris:
The Anniversary Capri Convertible was Lincoln's tribute to FoMoCo's golden anniversary (and it was trimmed in 14-carat gold!)
The Midshipman was painted aquamarine and styled in the yatching tradition
The Cadet was decorated in the colors and decor of West Point.
The puzzle car, the Maharajah, was finished in an ultra-luxurious gold pearl paint and white roof.

Where: Chicago Auto Show.
Who: I believe that man's job was shining the paint of the car or to take care of the stand...that is why he has got that briefcase open and why he seems to be exhausted.  ;D

Paul, I believe that you are right on all accounts... except maybe that since the car is a sedan it cannot be a coupe. I know that Mercury produced a "sedan-coupe" in the 1940's, and that several cars nowadays are supposed to be "4 door coupes", but...

I even believe that you're right about the "exhausted" character, on account of the suitcase.
My two other explanations (1- A bum who managed to spend the night here, 2- a drunken visitor gathering his spirits) are much less unlikely.
