I does look so Borgward.  The hood emblem has two diamonds instead of Borgward single diamond, or it may be meant to represent M and W.  It has to be postwar and German.  I'm trying, and haven't been here for many months.

Correct.
1951 AWS Elsbett. Wagen being german for car, I'm not sure it applies here. Could be Kombi instead, but I am not sure.

Surely you are not suggesting that it should be ASW?  ;)

The logo is styled with the S in the middle, but AWS is short for AutoWerke Salzgitter.

According to my source It was an attempt to revive AWS. This car was shown at the Berliner autoschau which was held in September 1951

Bankrupt does not mean that the work stopped (neccessarily) immediately.

I really like this one, because it was a kind of very early modern van project.

It featured a radial 50HP 4-cyl. air-cooled engine ("Sternmotor"), and offered 9 seats.

AWS went bankrupt in 1950, that´s true, but it was right this car and another light truck, they´ve presented in 1951 to start from new again.

The attempt failed, of course... :-\

These pics might be new for the most of our community.
Below the interisting X-tubular frame chassis with the 50 HP 2 liter 4cyl. two-stroke radial front Diesel engine. The car was the brain-child of Ex-Junkers engineer Ludwig Elsbett. I think the upper photo shows the car in an earlier state.
