Is that a Porsche gearbox or another make...

Could be an early Ultima?

This does not carry a Porsche gearbox, no. And it's not an Ultima, either!

going by the back of the car.... (well there isn't anything else to look at)

It has got to be a 4 or 6 cylinder inline engine. I would say 4 as the exhaust looks too small for anything of larger capacity than 2ltr.

Gearbox - probably Hewland or it could be Renault 25.

Just trying to eliminate a few more choices.

It's not a Lenham.

As for gilescooperuk's guesses:

It's a four-cylinder engine, and indeed smaller than two litres. And yes! The gearbox is a Hewland unit.

Is this the unique Lenham Hurst GT from 1972 (in other words the caption might be a bit of a giveaway..)?

Not a Beach.

And the second picture is indeed a Lenham, like the caption says - the problem is just that the second picture does not show the puzzle car, and I didn't post it ;)

I posted that...

And the differences between the two pics are obvious.
But racecars change, and there can be different versions of the same model.
So I thought it was worth a shot.

And it was a way to bring the puzzle back to the top when the original poster wasnt near his computer, for a while... :)

So, it's got a four-cylinder engine, smaller than two litres, and a Hewland gearbox (although I must say that is probably not what was originally fitted to this car).

I just discovered that gilescooperuk asked a question I didn't answer: The engine is not from a bike.

It's not a Lenham and not a Beach. And it's not French, but maybe that's a good place to start when solving this?

Causey P6 Special 1965 from USA

I suspect you're right about the model designation, although there are some slight differences between this and the P6 Special I find when searching the web. It is indeed a Causey, and that alone gives you... two points, I think this is worth. It's been around for a while.

I had it listed as a Causey Sports, which I know is probably not a correct model designation.

Congratulations!

EDIT: And of course, it shouldn't be in the News section. It's obviously been too long since I moved a puzzle... help, anyone?

The Causey P6 was built by David & Dean Causey and Jim ("I NEED") Dorn in Carmel,Ind. The body was made from a fiberglass mold pulled from a  P330 which was stored in a barn on the Causey's Cricklewood Farm.
The racer was first powered by a BDA Heart Motor.
To my knowledge, there was only one other body sold. It was mounted onto my 1200cc  Elva/Climax MK6 and renamed in it's SCCA Log book as a "Phoenix"
We ran the car for 2 seasons, driven by Jim Schweiker & sold it to a dentist from Wisconsin.
