Ak Miller's Caballo de Hierro 1953.
Ak Miller owned a workshop in Whittier CA and built the car with Doug Harrison specifically for the Carrera Panamericana in 1953. The car was constructed from a 1950 Ford frame - shortened and narrowed to fit a body from a 1927 Model T roadster. Engine was a 1951 Olsdmobile V8 producing around 250 bhp. Gearbox was a 1937 Cadillac three-speed.
The car competed in both the 1953 & 1954 events and finished 14th. overall in 1953 and an impressive 7th. overall in 1954 (that's an average speed of over 94 mph covering more then 1,900 miles.
The drivers shown in the car are Ak Miller and co-driver Doug Harrison.
By the way, Caballo de Hierro means "Horse of Iron", a fitting name for this ultimate American hot rod.
Ak Miller went on to build Caballo II and later constructed three Devin specials in the late 1950s/early 1960s.

Thank you very much - hmmmmmm an expert now - let's wait and see!.
I enjoy the challenge of identification of the type of cars that I'm familiar with - mainly sports racing cars of a certain era.
Although I'm now of an age where I should have retired 10 years ago, I still am actively involved in historic racing.
I presume I can now start posting and discussing some topics that may be of interest to a few on this excellent website.

I'd second that. There's at least one person here who would love to see more racing machinery  ::)
