Who built this car and when? A point is offered for the right answer.
-
Experts?
-
Beetle-base?
-
Austrian?
-
Not Beetle-based and it was not made in Austria
-
Professionals?
-
looking at the plate it should be German, then.
-
Yes, this one is from Germany.
-
Maico Champion? Maybe a race special?
-
No it is not a Maico Champion
-
One-off-home-built, again?
-
Yes :-[
-
As I can't find it in "our" source it will be a hard nut to crack, I'm afraid...
-
Yes, it was featured in a period magazine - but I know that sooner or later someone will find it :)
-
Pure incidence- but I´ve found it in "Rollerei und Mobil" issue 7/56:
it is a selfbuilt little sports machine that first had a 350ccm MAG engine and later a 12.5 PS 400 ccm Ilo WEGR 2/200 engine.
Parts were used from BMW Dixi, Opel kadett, Opel Olympia, Lloyd etc...
The builder was a certain Mr. Schirdewahn who drove this little thing at various events:
-
I like the "Eigenbau" badge! :D
Seems this car was built somewhere in "Niedersachsen" (BN = Lower Saxony)
-
Bump....
-
Thanks PJ, I have a serious backlog of puzzles to browse through. I'll try to clear it in a week or so.
And Grobmotorix - oops, you did it again!!! Congratulations :applause:

Wow, nice! Where did you find these? Can you PM me the source please?
-
This car was actually called Schirdewahn ESD 1.
-
And a view into the engine compartment with the 400 cc Ilo:

+ one photo

Here´s the chassis:
-
A (small) picture.
Apparently it's called the ESD1, but maybe it only became that after the ESD2 appeared..
-
Here´s the chassis:
I think that picture shows in fact the chassis of the Böning Eigenbau (https://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/2012-41/solved-allemano's-8470-776-boning-eigenbau) with the ILO engine in front of the right rear wheel. Looking at the picture of the engine compartment of the Schirdewahn Eigenbau in reply #21 I'd say the picture below shows the Schirdewahn chassis:
-
The Schirdewahn Eigenbau during construction, probably at the coachbuilder Rudy, and a picture of the Schirdewahn Eigenbau together with the Böning Eigenbau:
